Code Compliance Specialist 1, Grade 18

The Department of State is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Code Compliance Specialist 1.  The individual selected will be employed on a provisional pending examination basis in the Division of Building Standards and Codes. 

SALARY:                 Grade 18 ($56,604 – $71,980)  

                                (THIS POSITION IS ASSIGNED TO THE PS&T BARGAINING UNIT)  

LOCATION:           99 Washington Avenue    

                                Albany, New York

DUTIES:

Code Compliance Specialist 1’s in the Department of State provide technical support and information concerning the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and the New York State Energy Conservation Construction Code for such parties as government agencies/entities, architects, engineers, design professionals, professional organizations and community groups, and the public. The incumbent may be responsible for inspecting new and existing construction for compliance with approved plans and specifications and the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code, and the New York State Energy Conservation Construction Codes.  The incumbent may train local building officials, code enforcement officers, and other interested parties; develop curriculum and training materials for online and classroom delivery; and evaluate and revise the courses and materials, as necessary. The incumbent may also provide post-disaster building damage assessments, and supervise volunteer code enforcement disaster assistance response program participants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

You must have current certification as a Code Enforcement Official pursuant to Title 19 NYCRR, Part 434 or Part 1208 and has not let such certification be classified as “inactive” pursuant to 19 NYCRR 1208-3.5(a) and have six years full-time experience in any combination of:

Either the enforcement, inspection, development, or teaching of building or fire codes;

Or the design of buildings in a position such as a specifications writer, draftsperson, architect, or engineer.

Substitution:

In addition to the current certification as a Code Enforcement Official as stated above, a degree in architectural engineering, architecture, civil engineering, construction technology, electrical engineering, fire protection engineering, fire protection technology, or mechanical engineering may be substituted for applicable experience, as follows: two years for an associate's degree, and four years for a bachelor's degree.

Good morning, you will find attached the Proclamation for Building Safety Month.  If you would like to have your Mayor/Supervisor sign, you will only need to edit the first sentence to reflect either “City, Town or Village” – just delete the ones you don’t need.  Then at the bottom change the title of the Chief Elected Official to reflect Mayor/Supervisor and just have them sign it!
